Seafield Hotel sits in the north Wexford countryside near Gorey, and it has something that many larger, more prestigious venues don’t: a genuinely warm, personal atmosphere that photographs honestly. The gardens, the countryside setting, and the quality of light in Wexford’s southeast, consistently the sunniest corner of Ireland, combine to make Seafield one of my favourite venues in the region.
The Setting
The hotel is set in open Wexford countryside, with landscaped gardens and the rolling north Wexford hills as a backdrop. What the venue offers photographically is space and light, the wide sky, the well-maintained gardens, and the warm southeast light that this county is known for.
The gardens, Maintained with care and offering a variety of spaces: more formal planting near the hotel, wilder areas at the edges where the countryside asserts itself. The combination of manicured and natural gives portraits a range of backdrops without requiring a long walk.
The surrounding countryside, The fields and hedgerows of north Wexford immediately adjacent to the hotel give a pastoral, unhurried backdrop that suits couples who want their photographs to feel grounded in the real Irish countryside rather than in a stylised estate.
The hotel interiors, The function rooms are well-appointed and photograph cleanly, with spaces that suit both getting-ready photography in the morning and reception coverage in the evening.
The Light
Wexford is Ireland’s sunniest county, and Seafield benefits fully from that. The southeast orientation and the open countryside around the hotel mean the light is warm and long in the evenings, golden hour here, particularly in summer and early autumn, stretches late and warm.
Overcast Wexford days are not a problem. The diffused light from a cloud cover is even more flattering for portraits than direct sunlight, and the green fields and wide sky give the images a particular quality that the west of Ireland’s more dramatic landscape doesn’t produce.
Portrait Locations at Seafield
The strongest portrait locations at Seafield work outward from the hotel itself, the gardens immediately outside, the estate boundary where the countryside begins, and the wider Wexford landscape for couples willing to explore a short distance.
For golden hour portraits, the western-facing aspect of the hotel grounds catches the last of the sun beautifully. The combination of the garden’s greens and the warm evening light reliably produces the kind of images that couples come back to most often.
A Note on Wexford Weddings
Seafield is part of a small but excellent collection of venues in north Wexford, a part of the country that is underrated as a wedding destination and over-delivers on what it promises. The county’s light, the pastoral character of the countryside, and the ease of access from Dublin (Gorey is about 75 minutes on the M11) make it a strong choice for couples who want something genuinely beautiful without the drive to the west.
