Choosing your wedding venue in Dublin is one of the biggest decisions you’ll make, and as a Dublin wedding photographer, I’ve been lucky enough to shoot in some of the city’s most beautiful spaces. Here’s my honest guide to 12 venues that photograph beautifully and deliver an incredible experience for couples and their guests.

City Centre Venues

The Unitarian Church, St Stephen’s Green

One of Dublin’s most photogenic ceremony venues and one of the least talked-about. The Victorian Gothic interior has warm timber pews, beautiful stained glass, and a scale that is intimate and human rather than grand and imposing. The light through the stained glass windows during a ceremony is something I genuinely look forward to photographing, it fills the space with warm colour in a way that larger churches can’t replicate.

The Unitarian Church is a ceremony-only venue, which means you’ll combine it with a separate reception space nearby, The Shelbourne, Fallon & Byrne, and The Ivy are all within easy walking distance. That short journey between ceremony and reception gives me a window for street portraits in the Georgian streets around St Stephen’s Green.

The Ivy, Dawson Street

For small, intimate city weddings, The Ivy on Dawson Street is one of Dublin’s finest options. The stained glass ceiling, the theatrical period-inspired interiors, and the private dining spaces create an atmosphere that’s genuinely special, a celebration that feels like an occasion rather than a function. I’ve photographed small weddings here and the interiors are beautiful to work in. Particularly suited to weddings of 20–50 guests where you want the intimacy of a restaurant celebration with the elegance of a formal venue.

If you want a wedding surrounded by masterpieces, the National Gallery of Ireland on Merrion Square is breathtaking. The soaring ceilings, natural light, and grand galleries make it a dream for portraits. As an approved photographer here, I know every corner of this building, and it never disappoints. City Hall, Dublin

One of Dublin’s most iconic ceremony venues. The circular rotunda with its domed ceiling and marble columns is jaw-dropping, and the light that floods in creates the most beautiful, soft atmosphere for photographs. City Hall is a ceremony-only venue, so you’ll need a separate reception space.

The Shelbourne Hotel

A Dublin institution. The Shelbourne offers classic five-star elegance overlooking St Stephen’s Green. The ballroom is grand without being stuffy, and the hotel’s period features make for stunning portraits. Perfect for couples who want everything under one roof.

Fallon & Byrne

For couples who love good food and a relaxed, urban vibe, Fallon & Byrne on Exchequer Street is hard to beat. The top-floor dining room has gorgeous natural light, exposed brick, and an atmosphere that feels more like a celebration with friends than a formal wedding.

The Westbury Hotel

Sophisticated and central, The Westbury is a favourite for couples who want refined elegance in the heart of Dublin. The Grafton Suite is stunning for larger weddings, and the hotel’s proximity to Grafton Street and St Stephen’s Green gives you brilliant options for portraits.

Coastal and Waterfront Venues

Clontarf Castle Hotel

Just 15 minutes from the city centre, Clontarf Castle combines 12th-century history with modern luxury. The medieval-inspired interiors are atmospheric and photograph beautifully. The castle grounds and the nearby seafront at Clontarf promenade give you outdoor portrait options whatever the season.

The Royal Marine Hotel, Dun Laoghaire

Overlooking Dublin Bay, The Royal Marine has a Victorian grandeur that’s hard to match. The sea views from the function rooms are spectacular, and Dun Laoghaire pier is just a short walk away, perfect for dramatic, windswept portraits with the sea as your backdrop.

Country House and Estate Venues

Tankardstown House, Co. Meath

Just 45 minutes from Dublin, Tankardstown House feels like stepping into another world. The restored Georgian manor, orangery, and manicured grounds are stunning in every season. It’s one of the most photogenic wedding venues I’ve worked in, every angle is beautiful.

Luttrellstown Castle, Co. Dublin

A true fairytale setting just outside the city. Luttrellstown Castle sits on 567 acres of parkland and offers the kind of grandeur that takes your breath away. The estate grounds are magnificent for portraits, and the castle interiors are rich with history and character.

Ballymagarvey Village, Co. Meath

A beautifully restored 18th-century village with stone buildings, courtyards, and a river running through the grounds. Ballymagarvey is exclusive-use, meaning the entire venue is yours for the weekend. The variety of backdrops, from rustic barns to riverside walks, makes it a photographer’s paradise.

Tips for Choosing Your Dublin Wedding Venue

Having photographed at dozens of venues, here’s what I’d suggest:

  • Visit at the same time of day as your ceremony, lighting changes dramatically and matters more than you’d think
  • Ask about exclusivity, Having the venue to yourselves makes a huge difference to the atmosphere (and the photos)
  • Consider the flow, How far is the ceremony space from the reception? Will guests need to travel between locations?
  • Think about weather backup, This is Ireland. Have a plan B for outdoor ceremonies and portraits
  • Ask your photographer, If you’ve already booked a photographer, ask if they’ve shot at your shortlisted venues. They’ll have insights you won’t find on a venue’s website
