Marlfield House, A Regency-era country house near Gorey, set in 36 acres of gardens and woodland. The conservatory dining room, with its vine-covered ironwork and glass walls looking into the gardens, is one of the most beautiful reception rooms I have photographed in. The walled garden, the woodland walk, and the ornamental lake give a range of portrait settings within the grounds. The light in the conservatory changes throughout the day and is particularly magical in the late afternoon.
Wells House & Gardens, A Victorian Gothic mansion near Ballyedmond, set in a wooded estate with formal terraced gardens, a craft courtyard, and ancient woodland. The house itself is full of period detail, dark wood panelling, ornate fireplaces, a sweeping staircase, while the gardens cascade down a hillside in a series of planted terraces. It is a venue with enormous visual depth.
Horetown House, A Georgian country house near Foulksmills in south Wexford, offering exclusive-use weddings on a working farm. The interiors are elegant and understated, and the surrounding farmland, including a walled garden, a tree-lined avenue, and views across the rolling south Wexford countryside, provides the kind of honest, pastoral backdrop that photographs with real authenticity. The coastline is a major draw. The long, curving beaches at Curracloe (where the opening scene of Saving Private Ryan was filmed), Duncannon, and Rosslare Strand are expansive enough to feel private even in summer. Summer afternoons here are often warm and settled when other parts of the country are dealing with showers. That said, exposed coastal locations like Hook Head can be windy, so I always plan sheltered alternatives for portrait sessions.

The county’s southerly position means longer evenings in summer, the sun does not set until well after 9:30pm in June, and the light takes on a rich, amber quality as it drops towards the western horizon.
