Ballymaloe House, The Allen family’s country house hotel near Shanagarry in East Cork, set on a working farm with a cookery school, gardens, and its own grainstore function room. Ballymaloe is synonymous with Irish food culture, and weddings here reflect that, seasonal, local, and deeply personal. The walled gardens, the farm surroundings, and the nearby Ballycotton cliff walk provide portrait settings that feel honest and grounded rather than manicured.
Castlemartyr Resort, An 18th-century manor house built around the ruins of an 800-year-old castle, set on 220 acres of mature parkland near Midleton. The juxtaposition of the ruined castle keep and the restored Georgian house creates a layered, textured backdrop unlike any other venue I have worked at. The lake, the woodland walk, and the formal gardens offer distinct settings within a short walk of the reception.
Fernhill House Hotel, A Victorian house in Clonakilty, West Cork, with views over the town and the surrounding farmland. The interiors have been sensitively updated while retaining period character, and the garden terrace is a natural gathering point for guests between the ceremony and reception. Clonakilty itself, with its painted shopfronts, traditional pubs, and harbour, provides a colourful, lively backdrop for portrait sessions.
Inchydoney Island Lodge, Set on a headland between two long sandy beaches near Clonakilty, Inchydoney offers a dramatic coastal setting that is unmatched in Cork. The Atlantic light here is extraordinary, the combination of reflected light from the sea and the wide, open sky creates conditions that are exceptionally flattering for photography. Sunset portraits on the beach are as good as it gets.
Longueville House, A Georgian manor house in the Blackwater Valley near Mallow, set on 500 acres of wooded estate. The house sits on an elevated position with views down the valley towards the ruins of Dromineen Castle, and the grounds include a Victorian conservatory, a walled garden, and old-growth woodland. The Blackwater Valley light, filtered through the trees and reflected off the river, gives photographs a particular warmth.

Cork wedding photography covers a remarkable spectrum. Cork city itself has a visual energy, the hilly streets, the English Market, the bridges over the Lee, the colourful Victorian terraces of the north and south sides, that suits couples who want an urban edge to their celebration. But most Cork weddings take place in the county, and it is here that the real variety shows itself.
West Cork is one of the most celebrated landscapes in Ireland, and for good reason. The coastline from Kinsale through Clonakilty, Skibbereen, and out to Mizen Head and Sheep’s Head is a sequence of rocky headlands, sheltered harbours, and sandy coves that changes character with every mile. The light in West Cork is influenced by the Atlantic, it is softer, more diffused, and shifts more rapidly than inland. What to Expect from Your Cork Wedding Photographer
Cork is the furthest county featured on this page, and I approach it differently than a local booking. The drive from Dublin to Cork city takes approximately 2.5 hours via the M8, while West Cork venues can be 3.5 to 4 hours. For Cork weddings, I typically travel down the day before and stay locally, which means I arrive rested and already familiar with the conditions rather than facing into a long drive on the morning of your wedding. The Atlantic influence on Cork’s weather is significant. West Cork is wetter and milder than the east of the county, and conditions can change rapidly, sunshine and showers within the same hour are common. I carry full weather-sealed gear and always have backup plans. Coastal venues like Inchydoney are exposed to wind off the sea, so I scout sheltered spots in advance. That said, the dramatic skies that come with changeable weather are one of the great assets of Cork wedding photography, a moody sky over the Atlantic coast can elevate a portrait from beautiful to truly extraordinary.
Golden hour in Cork is spectacular. The county’s southwesterly position means sunset light comes in off the Atlantic, and the last hour of daylight on a clear evening turns the coastline gold. West-facing venues and beaches benefit most, Inchydoney, the harbour at Kinsale, and the Sheep’s Head Peninsula all catch this light beautifully. In summer, the sun does not set until after 9:30pm, giving generous time for portraits during the drinks reception.
