The interiors are grand without being stuffy, and the grounds provide an extraordinary range of portrait settings, from the formal parterre garden to the wild lakeshore with the castle towering behind. Falls Hotel, Ennistymon, Overlooking the cascades of the River Inagh in the charming town of Ennistymon, Falls Hotel has a relaxed, unpretentious atmosphere that Clare couples love. The wooded riverside walk is a photographer’s dream, dappled light, the sound of rushing water, and a sense of seclusion just steps from the reception. Why Clare for Your Wedding?
Clare’s defining feature is geological. The Burren, 250 square kilometres of exposed limestone karst, is home to an unlikely mix of Arctic, Alpine, and Mediterranean wildflowers growing side by side in the crevices (grikes) of the rock. In May and June, the Burren is carpeted with gentians, orchids, and bloody cranesbill, and the silver-grey rock glows in the light. Photographically, it’s unlike any other landscape in Ireland: clean, sculptural, and endlessly interesting.
Then there’s the coast. The Cliffs of Moher are the headline act, and for good reason, the scale is staggering and the views stretch to the Aran Islands and Connemara. But the Clare coastline beyond the cliffs is equally compelling: the sea stacks at Bridges of Ross near Loop Head, the wave-cut platforms at Fanore Beach, the sheltered harbour at Ballyvaughan. What to Expect from Your Clare Wedding Photographer
Clare is approximately 2.5 to 3 hours from Dublin, depending on whether your venue is in the east of the county (near Ennis or Shannon) or further out on the coast. I always travel the day before for Clare weddings, which gives me time to check the light at your venue and confirm our portrait plan.
The west Clare coast gets weather, there’s no sugarcoating that. But coastal weather is dynamic, and dynamic weather makes for powerful photographs. I’ve photographed couples on Fanore Beach with horizontal rain one minute and golden sunshine the next, and those are images they come back to again and again. I carry full weather-sealed gear and always have sheltered backup locations mapped.
One practical note: if you’re hosting your ceremony in one of Clare’s beautiful old churches, many of which have thick stone walls and relatively small windows, I bring portable lighting to ensure we capture the ceremony beautifully regardless of the natural light available.
